Editor's note: about 20 years ago or so--and before the internet was the new sensation--I used to listen to a late night CBC radio show called Brave New Waves with Brent Banbury. He would play alternative, college and non-mainstream music and often did features on certain artists. One notable interview was with Andrew Eldrich of the Sisters of Mercy who calmy told Mr. B to "fuck off" due to an aesthetic disagreement. But my favorite musical moments came from Steinski & Mass Media. Around this time Steinski--who was well-known in the hip hop world but unknown to me since I didn't and don't follow the genre--released The Motorcade Sped On. It's a pastiche of news and media clips surrounding the assassination of JFK with a drum beat, scratching and sparse musical accompaniment. Another song released by him in the next few years called It's Up To You was similar in the vein of Motorcade but featured the riff from Donovan's tune Barabajagal and media concerning the first Gulf War.
