Editor's note: are there not equal parts admiration and revulsion reserved for all statesmen? I mean, if Hitler was the great manipulator then FDR, Churchill and their ilk were the great masturbators of the people. These are not speeches of a diplomat but of an elitist team leader rooting his slaves against the other teams' servants in the great game. They are remarkable speeches in the fact that they were given and it fueled on the Allied victory. Repulsive that they were given at all. That said, the world is little changed from that time. The old attitudes are gone but not the vicious human desire to control and power over one another. This is not a bad thing either but rather a condition of life. There will be more wars and speeches. It's just too bad that they won't be rehashed on vinyl!
