The Going Thing were a band manufactured by the Ford Motor Company for marketing purposes. This one-sided Christmas LP was given away to Ford employees for Christmas of 1968. John Naughton, a Ford executive at the time, delivers the spoken introduction that opens the album.
I suppose that's better than actually researching it for myself.

My Dad was a Ford employee in 1968 (1953-1986) - one of those guys Mr. Naughton talks about putting in long hours. We didn't get one of these.
