Editor's note: if you want throwback country to the days when country music was honky tonk then Vernon is your guy. Although this was one of his last straight country albums he still records having turned to gospel music and become a preacher. These are the stereotypical songs you'd expect from "redneck" music and Oxford relished in that fact. As he should. I mean, I don't much care for country singing (notice I didn't say music! The singing's the key here.) but I think this is how it should be if it's going to be considered true country music. Not your prototypical 80s record but hey, you never thought the Village People would record "Food Fight" during the 80s either, did ya?
