Editor's note: the liner notes say that these are basically new translations of old standards to the sounds of the day. Which on the surface of things sounds great until you realize that this is 2010 and the sound of the day is CRAP! 1978 is a world away musically and much has happened to the detriment of both sound, melody and musicianship. I hope the monks aren't putting out something that sounds like a Lady Gaga, Saliva, Jonas Brothers and John Mayer hybrid. Actually, maybe I am. It would be great vinyl listening if only the Compact Disc hadn't ruined everything. As for this record: sing a psalm of sixpence and a pocket full of rye whiskey and drink yourself into a deep devotional trance. But first grab your acoustic and strum along ye heathens.
