Editor's note: it's only fitting that I had this one cued up last night to coincide with the travesty I witnessed with the Galarraga 28 out Perfect Game that wasn't to be due to a shit call only to not have the thing ready to go. It is now.
So...what's the bigger feat: a perfect game or winning 30 games? Obviously 30 games since nobody's done it in the 42 years since McLain did (1968). Which also coincides with the year he released this album. Since then he's been to prison a few times, allegedly pilfered 2.5 million from a pension fund of a business he co-owned, been accused of not only having mob ties but that an injury to his foot was allegedly caused by mobsters who wanted their gambling money and finally had a daughter pass away in a tragic accident involving a drunk driver. Fame has not been kind to McLain but the Hammond Organ has. Listen for yourself.
I came across this record on a few blogs and managed to track down some audio from WFMU's site. I would love to hear more from this honky-tonkin' caterwaulin' queen. Listen to the tracks below and I think you will too!
