IMPULSIVE (Leo) 4:00

DYNAMIC (Scorpio) 3:45
ADVENTURESOME (Sagittarius) 3:57
AMBITIOUS (Capricorn) 3:43
VERSATILE (Aquarius) 3:50
ROMANTIC (Pisces) 4:30

download

Editor's note: despite the rhythmic cadence of the pop and hiss, the dreamy visage on the cover and the subject matter this record disappoints me. Not that I don't like it bit it just seems a bit flat. Something your aunt would listen to and not the cool hippy chick who smells like tree bark and takes on more wood than a tree service. I do like the notations and drawing on the back though.

Editor note: I don't know if it's car lag from having driven 8+ hours last night or what but this is one of the worst records that I've posted on here. It sounds bad, the songs are bad and at times the playing seems bad. Or maybe it was just the recording. Or even just...me?

Let's Dance Again 2:53
Play A Simple Melody

download

Editor note: this is one of those records that cosmetically looks flawless until you play it and it sounds like you've dragged a rake across cement. Of course, some of the complainers on here who want hi-quality without having to pay for it would say that about most records on the blog. Luckily, I just ignore them and plug away at other material. As for the music it's a decent listen but nothing spectacular.

MUSIC FROM A SOUTHERN SWAMP

by Audubon Society

SIDE A:

download

SIDE B:

download

Editor note: stupid me, I left for the weekend with the intention to post this but forgot to take a photo of the album or scan it. So what you get is the above snippet from the November 1971 issue of the Audubon Society stating that this was recorded in South Carolina. Which is kind of helpful though not necessary for posting purposes. This was an Eva-Tone flexi freebie that has a good slice in the side of it that affects the beginning of SIDE A but played through its injury. The sound isn't great but is it ever with flexis? Also, both sides ended abruptly at the last few seconds as can be evidenced again on the end of SIDE A.

download

Editor's note: I'm not going to pretend to know anything about ragtime piano, Johnny Maddox or music in general. I bought this record thinking that he was an obscure small label nobody but it turns out that he was a star in the 1950s and he continued touring and recording into the 1960s before semi-retiring. His collection of sheet music is one of the largest in the world totaling some 200,000 pieces.

THE HAPPY PUPPY

by Bent Fabric

ATCO RECORDS
33-155
1962

SIDE A:

THE HAPPY PUPPY (2:39)
C'EST SI BON (2:08)
CHICKEN PEEP (2:06)
THERE YOU ARE (2:27)
THE SUNSHINE OF YOUR SMILE (1:49)
LOVE IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER (2:34)

download

SIDE B:

SERMONETTE (2:23)
ZERO ZERO (2:13)
THE MIDNIGHT SUN WILL NEVER SET (2:47)
THAT CERTAIN PARTY (2:20)
TIP TOE SERENADE (1:56)
PUPPY LOVE (2:23)

download

Editor's note: as the liner notes say: "Although Bent Fabric may sound like a name invented by a clever Madison Avenue account executive to intrigue record buyers, there is a real Bent Fabric. His full name is Bent Fabricius-Bjerre..." and from there it becomes less interesting from sleeve to sound. Not bad at all but in the jazz-lite vein of that Charlie Brown Christmas album that came out sometime around when this one did. Which, now that I think about it was pretty goddamn tits, now wasn't it? Well, this isn't that but it's all right. A nice record to saw chicken at the dinner table with and drink boxed wine while you think about the hooker that got away.

THE VAMPYRE AT THE HARPSICHORD

by Verne Langdon

ELECTRIC LEMON RECORDS
PLP-1916
STEREO
1974

SIDE A:

NOCTURNAL QUEST (4:35)
ODE TO THE TOMB (3:24)
ETERNAL LIFE SUITE (2:28)
CARNIVAL OF SOULS (3:07)

download

SIDE B:

FLIGHT OF THE VAMPYRE (1:50)
MOON SPELL (TRANCE) (4:17)
UNDEAD THEME (4:10)
WALTZ OF THE GHOULS (3:34)

download

Editor's note: You can never have enough of the horror factor with records. In fact, if I could find enough at the thrift stores it would be all that I posted. Luckily, I'm cheap, poor and dis-inclined to hoard at any cost.

I'm not a musician. In fact, I don't really care that much for music. I like it but it's mostly a distraction in the grand scheme of things. So when I say that this is a good record it's based on a novice ear and an addled mind. A creepy, old shaggy dude on the back of the cover and a vampire on the front probably enhance the musical value here but what's that to do with good taste?

And just in case somebody wants me to divide the tracks, up the sound quality or post in another format: NYET! NYET! NYET! Do it yourself, POG.

VOICES FROM THE MOON

by Philco Ford

EVA-TONE RECORDS
33 1/3
1969?

SIDE A:

download

SIDE B:

download

Editor's note: We all know that the moon is a multi-faceted satellite meant to control and stifle the human capacity for understanding. As such, if this space module is ever visited it is merely to fix the slave mechanism that beams into the static comfort of our lives. Just the same I enjoyed this brief montage and homage to the innovation known as television. Apollo 11 was quite a foray into acting and the manipulation of mass media by the government-media complex. And as JFK and Ronny Raygun learned about the perils of speaking out against the Illuminati cabal so, too, has God-Emperor Trump been made wise of the nature of the propagandists at the so-called news networks. You may not be so forthcoming in your denial.

4. The Importance of Cleanliness
5. Understanding Your Hair

SIDE B:

1. Hair Facts, Not Fancies
2. Setting Your Hair
3. Common Sense In Make-Up

Editor's note: so what's it been 5 years come November? Too long possibly but I've been reviving many of my old blogs because I'm finally more organized and have rid myself of unnecessary pests of the human variety. Plus, I bought an Ion turntable and upgraded my computer arsenal so flipping these discs is a much easier task now.

As for Vic Vito and his hair foppery: I like his seriousness despite the topic being so blasé-blah. Plus, the packaging is nice and spoken word is always a favorite go to for me. It's mainly what got me back into records. Otherwise, I'd be turning Alice Cooper records into click bait and getting sued by the money men mafia out there in pedo-town California.

AEROBICISE, BLOWFLY, JEWS FOR JESUS, LISTEN TO ME WEARING DENTURES & OTHER ATROCITIES OF THE VINYL CLASS

Aerobicise, which is purely rubbish, is one of the most popular albums that I have ever posted. Mostly it's because of the cheesecake photos of women expending themselves in sultry exertion but apparently some people like the music as well. Go figure.

Speaking of dirty, Blowfly has that covered in spades. Is that racist? Writing in black font is probably considered white privilege as well.

Less raunchy is Marsha Warfield (Roz from Night Court) and her comedy album but that's only because there's not much more bawdy that Blowfly.

Otherwise, there are a few religious records included here, an Elvis Costello side-project, Claudine Longet and her rendition of the BIG HITS, some minstrel magic and spoken words from the people of Lynchburg, Tennessee and Alvin Pensler talking about the joys of dentures.
