RICHARD ELLSASSER PLAYS THE CONN ORGAN

by Richard Ellsasser

SACRED RECORDS
LPS 4039
STEREO
1964

SIDE A:

Glorious Things of Thee are Spoken (2:12)
Brother James' Air (3:00)
Once to Every Man and Nation (2:15)
Fairest Lord Jesus (3:13)
A Mighty Fortress (1:45)

download

SIDE B:

The Lord's Prayer (3:18)
I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked (4:41)
Prelude on Greensleeves (5:20)
The Lost Chord (4:18)
Hallelujah Chorus ("Messiah") (3:40)

download

Editor's note: despite this being a religious record the cover gave me the same spiritual feeling of greatness as Luther Henderson's hand-clapping slapper-do cover did. As with that recording I was also left disappointed here. Not because it isn't a solid effort but it promised more than it delivered. This one is heavy on the churchy feel when I wished to be irradiated by a steam piano from Hell. Oh well. I still like the cover. According to a classical music forum (: |) his album "Richard Ellsasser Plays the Baldwin Electronic Organ" was termed "ghastly". Which is all the more reason to track it down.

Thanks for posting. Interesting records. ... Track 1, side A has the same tune as that famous movement from Haydn's 'Kaiserlied' String Quartet, which was later used as the base melody for the 'Deutschland, Deutschland, über Alles' anthem.
