Editor's note: as a poet Rod McKuen was a poetaster. As a musician and songwriter he wasn't half bad. Unfortunately, this is his verse. Accompanied by music, of course, but poetry nonetheless. I will say that it's fun to listen to because it's cringe-worthy bad but funny just the same. I almost think sometimes that he was trying to be funny in the same vein as Richard Brautigan and Peter McWilliams. But Brautigan offed himself so he must have been genuine in his banality. Rod? Who knows. Thus commences a week of Rod.
