Are We Live???

I was shut down for at least a few days due to malware in one of the third-party ads but I seemingly have access now. You?

HAPPY ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE LORD

by Joe Dailey & Friends

ALBA HOUSE COMMUNICATIONS
AN930
STEREO
1975

SIDE A:

Happy Are The Children of the Lord
God Is Love
Prayer For Peace
Our Father (Prince of Peace)
A Light Will Shine

download

SIDE B:

We'll See The Light
The Christ Hymn
New Life Hymn
Commitment Song
Blessing

download

Editor's note: had I not heard Carey Landry's "The Spirit is a Movin'" before this I might be more kindly inclined to like it but I find it derivative of that record. Which is an ignorant statement since I know little about either of the LPs and for all that I do know this could have preceded the aforementioned. No matter. I've heard both and this is the lesser of the two.

BAR MITZVAH FAVORITES

with the Marty Levitt Orchestra featuring Harriet Kane

FIESTA RECORD COMPANY
FLPS 1590
STEREO

SIDE A:

My Bar Mitzvah Boy
Zol Zein Mit Mazel
Sunrise-Sunset
Oy Vei Is Tsu Mir
Tumlers Buglar
Neyer Yid
To Life (L'Chayim)

download

SIDE B:

Litvak Polka
Shir Hashirim
Bar Mitzvah Hora
Mom-e-le
Tango Naturno
Mein Zindele

download

Editor's note: the first side of this record was interesting music-wise though the oompah variant was a bit overtaxing. By the second side I wanted to hurl it into space. Luckily, the Chinese now own that, too. I still like the idea of this LP just the sounds of it all that much.

A FUN EVENING...DON HAYES AND HIS BALDWIN ORGAN & PIANO

by Don Hayes

ART RECORDS
ALP 63 S
STEREO
1963

SIDE A:

download

SIDE B:

download

Editor's note: despite the excellent cover this record is fairly shoddy. The sound is low, the crackle is high and Don's jokes fall flat despite his own self-congratulatory laughter. That doesn't mean I don't like the package, because I do, it just could have used a professional tuning. Either way, if you need a rekindling of old Fort Lauderdale this takes you to The Mark "21" Lounge and the nightly tunings of Don Hayes.

GOD'S ANGRY MAN: THE LIFE STORY OF DICK PALMER

by Dick Palmer

CROWN SACRED RECORDS
CS-1001-LP
STEREO
1960s?

SIDE A:

God's Angry Man

download

SIDE B:

That's Enough
Swing Low, Sweet Chariot
Heaven Came Down and Glory Filled My Soul
Give Me Jesus
I'll Never Worry
To Be Used of God

download

Editor's note: Dick Palmer's story of redemption and the horrors of prison is a good listen though it also sounds like any other tale of that ilk. But since he was local to the Detroit area it works out in my favor. The second side sounds like kids, probably his, singing in the vein, though not in the same league, of "I Like God's Style" just not as rockabilly or as clunky. Either way you've once again been given more than you gave back.

BAROQUE MUSIC FOR RECORDERS

Concentus Musicus of Denmark Under The Direction of I. K. Mathiesen* and A. H. Mathiesen

NONSUCH RECORDS
H-71064
STEREO
1971

SIDE A:

download

SIDE B:

download

Editor's note: what could be more annoying than a bunch of professional musicians playing recorder flutes? The correct answer is nothing. Well, maybe except for a gaggle of kids performing with those same instruments. It's all the same to me either way. Oh yeah, I didn't feel like typing in the tracks. Not that anybody here has the ear for such finery anyway.

SONGS OF WESTERN BIRDS

by Donald J. Borror

DOVER PUBLICATIONS
22765-O
STEREO
1971

SIDE A:

download

SIDE B:

download

Editor's note: how is that one can find companion pieces to records eight years apart and not feel some kind of synchronicity in the world? I mean, I just as easily could have found the same bird record twice but in all of my years of scrounging through thrift store bins I always seem to find another part of a series. So it is. That's where the connection stops because I can hardly tell one bird apart save for maybe a bluejay or a dove. The rest? No clue. Such is my expertise in most things.

TOUCH TYPING MADE SIMPLE

NO LABEL
33 1/3
1960

SIDE A:

download

SIDE B:

download

Editor's note: my love of typewriters goes back further than records by about a handful of years. I think I had a typewriter by the time I was 4-years-old and have gone through word processors, computers, manuals and now cellphones typing away the word fantastic. That's what I do. Now do what you do best and mooch this record. Just note that there are periods of silence for typing exercises. It threw me off the first go around and I ended up re-recording SIDE A because I wasn't paying attention. Just as I wasn't paying attention in school and forewent typing training but can somehow type without looking at the keys without being able to identify any keys beyond the obligatory QWERTY.

THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE AND THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER

by the Peter Pan Players and Orchestra

PETER PAN RECORDS
45-689
45 RPM

SIDE A:

THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER

download

SIDE B:

THE FARMER IN THE DELL
OLD MAC DONALD HAD A FARM
HERE WE GO 'ROUND THE MULBERRY BUSH

download

Editor's note: hopefully this triggers some negative reaction from some factions of the snowflake generation that hates themselves but loves everything else. Myself, I don't stand or salute for either anthem. Not because I have some animus against them but rather against the great ignorant population at large that has turned our country into a ghettoized version of Canada.

HEY, MISTER!

 with Danny Thomas and others

AISAC-ST. JUDE CHILDREN'S RESEARCH HOSPITAL
AR 725
1960s

SIDE A:

Spiritual Medley
Johnny Guitar
Wishing Tree
Bugle Call Rag
Chop Chop

download

SIDE B:

Wake Me At Midnite
Balln' the Jack
Donde Estas
Tom Cattin
Hey Mister

download

Editor's note: I saw this in an estate sale preview a month or so ago and, of course, nobody else wanted it except me. Seeing as television is inundated with both sick children and abused dogs on the hour this album has relevancy in today's terms. Plus Danny Thomas was from Detroit and the singer and musician shown on the back cover are both natives to the city as well so it fits into my want list.

OATMAN...PAST & PRESENT

featuring various voices

NO LABEL
9870
1977

SIDE A:

Introduction (1:30)
Young Oatman (4:00)
The Miner (4:32)
Gold (3:42)
Suburban Oatman (2:29)
The Market (4:18)

download

SIDE B:

Away From It All (10:47)
The Burros (3:08)
Nuttin' To Do (1:18)
Ain't Been Scratched (2:39)
Conclusion (1:40)

download

Editor's note: I love this record but...there's a huge scratch at the end of the second side that audibly skips a time or twelve in the very last minute. Sucks donut? I mean, I'm not from Arizona and know nothing about Oatman but I always like some aural history and the blip at the end kills some of that joy. Oh well.
