1975

SIDE A:

This Land Is Your Land
He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother

I Believe

download

SIDE B:

Bridge Over Troubled Waters
Black Is The Color
Climb Every Mountain
Take Me Home Country Roads
Deep River
America The Beautiful

download

Editor's note: this is a hastily slapped together post with garbage photos that I took in the dim light of a Detroit November. Blurry but since my laptop is having issues and I'm going to work shortly it will do for now.

I bought this for the scandal at Boys Town and not the album concept or content. With that in mind I wasn't very disappointed having not expected much more than what was expected.

Editor's note: I had a few recorded records in surplus but was too lazy to take photos before I went out of town so you get stolen pics from discogs. I don't remember the record much and only bought it for the cemetery scene on the cover. That'll suffice for now.

COMIN' ON STRONG

by The Butch Strong Duo

E-B-D RECORDS
E-101
STEREO

SIDE A:

Night Train
Laura
The Second Time Around
Five Foot Two / Up A Lazy River
The Look Of Love

download

SIDE B:

I'm Gonna Make You Love Me
The More I See You
Moonglow / Theme From "Picnic"
The Girl From Ipanema
Poinciana
Shiny Stockings

download

Editor's note: I don't remember this album by heart but don't recall it hitting me in the solar plexus and making me gasp at its greatness. I remember a lot of jazz organ. That and the guy on the lower right of the back cover looks like an old co-worker of mine who is a classically trained bassist. I don't particularly care for his music either.

TEENAGERS' QUESTIONS ABOUT LIFE, LOVE, & SEX

by Francis L. Filas, S. J.

FAITH THROUGH EDUCATION RECORDS
LP 521
1964

SIDE A:

download

SIDE B:

download

SIDE C:

download

SIDE D:

download

Editor's note: this guy is a more clinical version of Don Lonie and a less professional version of Urban Steinmetz. By professional I mean psychiatric and by psychiatric I mean QUACK. Not like a duck but a duke of the stratosphear [sic]. Semper Tyrannis? Always. Unless you think that Tyrannis means t-ranny! I cannot abide by that. But as I was saying Mr. Filas is 3 parts theologian and 1/2 parts psychiatrist and jokester.

WHY KIDS GO WRONG!

by Dave Wilkerson

ZONDERVAN RECORDS
ZLP-745

SIDE A:

download

SIDE B:

download

Editor's note: Dave Wilkerson isn't f-ing around. Grab that defiant child, smack his ass while reading the Bible and then tenderly embrace them afterwards while reinforcing your love with Scripture. Which probably works in a moral society but in an amoral one like ours it sends your 19-year-old daughter to a sex dungeon where a 53-year-old master whips her into submission. Your son? He probably takes it a bit better and only kills a hooker or two before settling down with his boyfriend Swen.

The rest of the record isn't bad advice.

Editor's note: a throwaway record with decent lounge singing if you like that sort of thing. I do not. I bought it with hopes that these guys were a total trainwreck but they were a passable act.

ENVIRONMENTS: NEW CONCEPTS IN STEREO SOUND

by Syntonic Research

ATLANTIC RECORDS
SD 66001
STEREO

SIDE A:

SIDE B:

Editor's note: you don't need any introduction to the ENVIRONMENTS series. That big albino ear with a large bird of prey soaring about it...that's a whole other matter that mere mortals shall never endeavor to explain.

WHEREVER YOU GO

by the Monks of Western Priory

THE BENEDECTINE FOUNDATION OF THE STATE OF VERMONT
XPL-1035
STEREO
1972

SIDE A:

Happiness
Unless A Man
The Dove Song
Father, If This Cup
Yahweh
Walk In The Shoes

download

SIDE B:

Anything Happens
If Anyone Loves Me
O Lord, Be Not For
A Light Has Shone
Hosanna
Wherever You Go

download

Editor's note:  I'm not sure why monks creep me out but they do. Luckily, I liked the cover which reminds me of some evil sort of choir of stilted Satanists. And really what is more sinister than a cabal of men singing together earnestly of devotion to any subject? Plus they're joyous sounding and that makes me believe that something untoward is going on within this group. It probably wasn't/isn't but that's my gut reaction to it all.

GOD IS SO GOOD

by The Walden Trio

DIY
LP-DS-335-1172
STEREO

SIDE A:

GOD IS SO GOOD
SAVED THROUGH JESUS'S BLOOD
I SHALL NOT BE AFRAID TO GO
TOO MUCH TO GAIN TO LOSE
SOMEDAY
THERE IS STRENGTH IN THE LORD

download

SIDE B:

BEYOND TOMORROW
HE'S MY LORD
MERCY
SOMETIMES A MOUNTAIN
THE TRIBULATION
CALVARY

download

Editor's note: this record is rough but the singing is pure religious velvet and the album cover psychedelic gold. God was good to the Waldens and so they sang their hearts out to him. The fact that I have spent some time in Sweetwater, much to my daughter's chagrin, gives the record some extra value. Though, I will admit that without the great cover I probably wouldn't have taken a second look at it.

FOLKLORE SURAMERICANO

by Los Caciques Paraguayos

LORENA RECORDS

VISION DE PAZ
VIRGEN AUSENTE
LOPEZ PEREIRA

SIDE B:

RONDALLA
ALMA Y VIDA
CANTINA
EN MI FANTASIA
EL HUAZO LADINO
HORTENCIA

download

Editor's note: I don't remember listening to this record but now that I'm re-listening to it I find it to be kind of eclectic in a good way though the styles seem to clash. But what do I know about music? Nothing. Neither do you or you wouldn't be here digging into the freebie bin.

MUSIC FOR THE SENSATIONAL SIXTIES

by Don Elliott & Orchestra

PICKWICK RECORDS
DCF-1028
STEREO
1960

SIDE A:

Out Of This World
Stardreams
I'm Glad There Is You
Stella By Starlight
Blues For Max

download

SIDE B:

Voca Jazz
Moon Love
Echoes Of Webster Hall
What's The Use Of Wond'rin
Opus Hokus Pokus

download

Editor's note: another case of a great album cover with a record that has lived beyond its shellac. But I don't give a shit how good it sounds so much as that it SOUNDS. If it'll play through with nary a skip or two then it's good enough to be catalogued. Listen and if you don't like it then you've only lost time. Listen and like? Then you can buy or scrounge up another free copy elsewhere. That's how it works over here. We aren't Rick Rubin trying to sell a grinder wheel to the highest bidder.

Frank Sinatra-esque without the big bass voice. Not as annoying either.

The bigger appeal is probably Elliott riding his Vespa scooter into outer space. Or that vacuous hologram better known as the sky to non white martians.

CAST YOUR FATE TO THE WIND

by Sounds Orchestral

MARBLE ARCH RECORDS
MALS 834
STEREO
1968

SIDE A:

Cast Your Fate To The Wind
Scarlatti Potion No.9
When Love Has Gone
Scarlatti Potion No.5
To Wendy With Love

download

SIDE B:

Something's Coming
Carnival (From "Black Orpheus")
Downtown
Love Letters
Like The Lonely

download

Editor's note: this record sounds really clear once away from the quiet parts but the rough quality of a well-played record remains. I like a little muddiness. It's what gives the medium its character. Creaky as an old house.

There's also boobs on the cover and it made this a given pick from its Troy, Ohio foster home at the Goodwill. I've picked up dozens of great records there. This one isn't great per se but it is pleasant enough musak. The dreamy female singing on some tracks is the golden touch on otherwise generic music.

THE VERY THOUGHT OF YOU

by Frankie Carle, His Piano & Orchestra

PICKWICK RECORDS
SPC-3153
STEREO
1969

SIDE A:

THE VERY THOUGHT OF YOU
WINCHESTER CATHEDRAL
YOU'LL NEVER KNOW
CANADIAN SUNSET
CAROLINA IN THE MORNING

download

SIDE B:

IT'S A LONESOME TOWN
TO EACH HIS OWN
MELODY OF LOVE
I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT YOU'RE IN LOVE WITH ME

download

Editor's note: the cover photos look like garbage but it's an October night in Michigan and with these new-fangled screw bulbs everything is muddled. Maybe I'll take another in the morning. Maybe I won't. Either way the record sounds good although a bit muddy in parts thanks to scratches and scuffs. The cover was too good to pass up though and since I was three hours from home there was no going back on any indecisiveness.

MARK SCOTT INTERVIEWS JONATHAN RAUCH, 1994

with Mark Scott

SIDE A:

download

Editor's note: I lied. You get one more. I took notes on this the other night but I can't find them. I believe that this is the tape where Scott mentions Jim Bakker's release from prison which places it around December 1, 1994, give or take a day or two.

The main impetus is a cut-off interview (the end) between Scott and Jonathan Rauch, a gay rights activist and proponent of gay marriage. In my opinion the state has no right to sanction any marriage but since people love governmental control they call it a family value. When the state sanctifies anything it is diminished. Anyway, Rauch reminds me a lot of Mayor Pete Buttigieg. In fact, I would guess that if you look into the bad mayor Pete you'd find some ties to Rauch. Personally, I could give a flip less either way but that was my first thought upon hearing the guy talk.

THE BAVARIAN FUN MAKER BAND

by The Bavarian Fun Maker Band

HBR PRODUCTIONS
RSR-703
STEREO

SIDE A:

Bergvagabunden (Mountain Vagabonds)
Das Kufsteiner Lied (The Kufstein Song)
Lily Marleen (Played With Cowbells)
Clarinetten Muckel (Clarinet Polka)
Muss I Denn (Wooden Heart)

download

 SIDE B:

Edelweis (Theme From Sound Of Music)
Schau Das Alpengluhn (See The Alpine Glow)
Wien Bleibt Wien (Vienna Forever)
In Munchen Steht Ein Hofbrauhaus (In Munich There Stands A Hofbrew House)
Rosamunde (Beer Barrel Polka)
Ein Prosit

download

Editor's note: this is pretty generic stuff and rightfully so since these appear to be Bavarians in Tennessee. Not that that is an unheard of thing since there is a Germantown in Nashville, that I'm aware of, and likely other German enclaves across the state but...it's not Little Bavaria by any means.

Also, I'm in the fatigue stage of a getaway week and there likely won't be many, if any, posts for the rest of the week, though that may change if I feel a little more spry after working 10 hour days for a week straight.

THE INNER CIRCLE OF THE ILLUMINATI

by Texe Marrs

LTP
1995

SIDE A:

download

SIDE B:

download

Editor's note: I cannot tell you how irritating the "farting noise" being emitted from some unknown radio wave and transferred to the recording is to me but there's apparently nothing that can be done about it. Clearly it's a neighbor's phone and unless I somehow jam their service it's a variable in the recording process.

As for Texe: it dawned on me last night while recording this that when he gets into the flow of his words and his voice rises he kind of sounds like the narrator from the television Batman series. Maybe not a dead ringer but he reminds me of him, whomever he was. Other than that, F- the Illuminati!

THE ROSS PEROT THAT NOBODY KNOWS

by Texe Marrs

LTP
1994

SIDE A:

download

SIDE B:

download

Editor's note: I don't know what it is down in the water of Austin, Texas but hombres like Alex Jones and Texe Marrs aren't buying into the mainstream news bullshit and neither should you. Surely, Perot was an insider or he'd have never been allowed to enter the fray of American presidential politics. Trump, similarly, though the reaction of the Deep State has shown that they are none too pleased with his performance thus far. Which is the only reason that I support him from a psychological standpoint. Materially or vote-wise, no thanks. I'll never vote again even if at the barrel of a gun unless my daughter's physical safety is threatened. Other than in those extreme circumstances I won't willfully take part in a corrupt system that keep politic dinosaur-aliens like Lindsey Graham, Dianne Feinstein and their ilk in power.

As for sound quality: the farting returns. Surely it must be a neighbor's phone waves interfering since I had everything turned off and/or moved out of close proximity. Other than that aspect I've been very pleased with the cassette recorder. I'll attempt this one again in some more secluded setting at some point.

DORRIE AND THE HALLOWEEN PLOT

by Patricia Coombs

LISTENING LIBRARY
FTR 86
1976

SIDE A:

download

SIDE B:

download

Editor's note: there's only so much I can do for all y'all's people of Amerigo Vespucci Land and this is my morsel meat, bread and greens all rolled into one Halloween spectacular fueled by a morning protein shake and a pumpkin beer. You get what you gets.

The first time I recorded it a "farting" noise appeared every minute on the minute. This was late night and I presume that's when the most "farting" waves are sent through the atmosphere to interfere with audio cassette transmissions though I'm not sure of that fact. The second attempt proved more successful with muted audio blips.

Either way, this is some solid entertainment for the kid fishes in your life. A little too candy sweet but for a 5-year-old it's likely as riveting as old Jack O'Lantern himself. He-self? He/himself. It. Eh, @!#*! WE!
